Our story begins around 30 years ago, with a big movie and an even bigger shoe company. The directors of "Back to the future II" asked Nike to design a futuristic shoe for the characters in the future to wear. Nike did design the self tying shoe seen in the movie, however they took it upon themselves to make it a reality. Just in time for Back to the Future day, Nike delivered their first ever pair of Nike Air Mag 2015. I feel like the question on everyone's mind right now is "how did they even make self lacing shoes?" so I'll try and explain how the best I can, so bear with me for now.
In the movie "Back to the future II", Michael J. Fox's character Marty McFly wore the very pair of self lacing shoes that inspired Nike's potential breakthrough in changing the world of shoes. The way they worked was you pulled on the top 2 flaps to tighten the strap (part that says "NIKE"), and then the laces would automatically tighten to fit your feet. If you wanted to see for yourself, here's a gif of the shoes from the movie http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/02/17/marty_mcfly.gif .
Michael was given the very first pair shortly after receiving the first pair of Nike air mag 2015's, and 1400 other pairs are going to be auctioned for the Michael J. Fox charity for Parkinsons. However, the public release date for the shoes was revealed to be in 2016 by Tinker Hatfield.
Personally, I feel like the power laces are a little over hyped. I mean, obviously having shoes that tie themselves would be cool but there's been so many other things invented in our generation that makes these look like light up sketchers, but worth about $500 more. However, the air mag 2015's are still probably going to be less expensive than $1,000 Yeezy boost 350's.
